This module is designed to equip everyday Christians to effectively share their life and their faith with others.

We are not training you to be evangelists or someone who stands up in front of a crowd, but a person who can share what God has done for you, one on one, in a natural and informal way.

Jesus gave some instructions to the fishermen He was training. The first example is in Luke 5: 4-7 where they had fished without any success. Jesus told them to go out and try again. Their natural minds and experience told them there were no fish about but they said, “Master we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” They caught so many they filled two boats.

The second occasion was in John 21:3-6 where once again they had fished all night with no results.  Whilst they were still fishing, Jesus said “Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it because of the multitude of the fish.

What caused the initial lack of success?

In the first instance they had fished at the wrong time.  In the second case they were casting in the wrong place. Even though they had all the skills of net casting, to avoid a “hit and miss” operation, they still needed the Lord to tell them when and where to fish. Again, we need to question ourselves are we being Spirit led to do the works of the Father.

Jesus tells us in Matt 4:19 “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.”

There have been many believers trained in the skills of being fishers of men only to find ongoing success elusive.  Others have “toiled all night and caught nothing”.

What is the missing element?

It’s the guidance of our fishing expert Jesus, telling us how, when and where to fish This enables us to have … the right words for the right person at the right time.

In other words Spirit led guidance which will run rings around the “hit and miss” approach which has discouraged many Christians in the past.

Obviously fishermen do need natural expertise in net casting and so the module will also provide training in the basics skills of communicating effectively and hearing from the Spirit to lead others to Christ.

An expanded teaching is given in the introduction.

For those who intend to complete the “Hands On” practical seminar, the Activation Exercises following the chapters will be tested.
